Student Employment

The School of Law has a strong interest in students’ spending sufficient time on their academic commitments to enable them (1) to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed by an attorney to represent clients competently and professionally and (2) to pass the bar examination.

During a student’s Orientation as a 1L or transfer student, each student shall receive a form containing substantially the following language and shall sign and return an acknowledgment of receipt:

“The Law Faculty believes that the primary occupation of full-time law students should be the successful completion of their academic commitments so that students are able both (1) to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed by an attorney to represent clients competently and professionally, and (2) to pass the bar examination. Accordingly, the Faculty has adopted the following policies:

  • First-year law students should only work within the law school during the fall and spring semesters.
  • While enrolled full-time, upper-class law students should not work more than 20 hours per week outside law school.

I have received and read this policy regarding student employment.”
