The Honorable Laurie Marin
Judge Laurie Marin currently sits as a Housing Court Judge in the New York City Civil Court, New York County. She previously worked as a Court Attorney in the New York City Civil Court, resolving landlord-tenant disputes as a litigator at both the trial and appellate levels, and as a legal counselor and advocate at several public interest organizations.
Judge Marin’s experiences as a Judge and a Court Attorney for the Housing Court have given her a broad knowledge of state and federal housing laws. She has assisted practitioners and litigants in settling thousands of cases, researched and written hundreds of decisions, and ultimately assisted numerous persons of diverse backgrounds to reach equitable resolutions to their disputes.
Prior to her employment with the New York State Court System, Judge Marin worked for a small-firm specializing in real estate litigation and transactions, focusing on appellate practice. In earlier employment as a staff attorney for the West Side Single-Room Occupancy (SRO) Law Project, she represented low-income tenants in Housing Court and learned how to be a zealous advocate for the disenfranchised and to work collaboratively with community organizers.
Judge Marin has also been involved with numerous civic and professional associations, including the New York City Bar Association LGBT Rights Committee, the Gay/Straight Alliance of the N.Y. State Courts, and the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County, among many others. She has also received numerous honors and awards, including the 2007 Certificate of Honor from the Queens Borough President for her contributions to the LGBT community and as the 2011 Honoree of the Kings County Housing Court Bar Association.
Judge Marin received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
