The Center for International Legal Education (CILE) is pleased to announce Pitt Law students Kevin Leary (Class of 2014) and Kate Mafrica Langford (Class of 2014) have been selected by the Ministry of Higher Education of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the Education Without Borders (EWB) Conference in Dubai March 25-28, 2013.
Three third-year students in the Health Law Certificate Program—Bryan Murray, Schevon Salmon, and Brett Anthony—participated in the 2013 Health Law Regulatory and Compliance Competition at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law on February 16. Pitt Law’s third-year student team won the finalist trophy at the 2013 Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) Regional Mock Trial competition, held February 8-10, 2013, in Philadelphia, Pa. After defeating everyone it faced in its bracket in both ballots and points, the Pitt Law team lost to Rutgers University in the finals.
The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program has announced the semifinalists for the PMF Class of 2013. Among them are six Pitt Law alumni and five students—the most of any Pitt graduate school. Semifinalists next must complete in-person assessments, and finalists are scheduled to be announced in March.
Two Pitt Law students finished ahead of 20 teams to win the Great Case competition, held Oct. 5 at the University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. The event, which required graduate students to address a fictional case study involving fiduciary ethics, featured teams from the Katz School, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, and Penn State University.
Anne Burger, ’94, was presented with the 2012 Jeffrey A. Jacobs Award at the 2012 Defense Community Dinner at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The award recognizes a criminal defense attorney who exemplifies fierce advocacy, dedication to clients, perseverance and a commitment to fair justice.
