Pitt Law Alum Philip Beard II Publishes Third Novel “Swing” To Positive Reviews

Pitt Law alum Philip E. Beard, II (’88) published his third novel Swing earlier this year, adding another well-received book to his accolades in addition to being Of Counsel at Stonecipher Law in Pittsburgh since 1990.

Swing is a baseball themed nostalgia set in the early ‘70s in Pittsburgh. It follows the characters of John Kostka and Henry Graham and the trials of their friendship fomented by their love for the Pittsburgh Pirates. According to the liner notes, the novel “is a multifaceted meditation on childhood heroes, the beauty of baseball and the power of love to heal a family in crisis.”

Beard’s first novel Dear Zoe was published by Viking in 2005 and was selected by Booklist as one of the ten best first novels of 2005. His second novel Lost in the Garden was also published by Viking in 2006.

At Stonecipher Law, Beard concentrates his practice in areas of corporate, oil and gas and bankruptcy and insolvency law. He handles various contract negotiations and sales and acquisitions for clients.
