Professor Bernard Hibbitts gave a talk Friday entitled “Hugh Henry Brackenridge: Lawyer Knight-Errant of the Republic” at the Frick Fine Arts auditorium in connection with the 225th anniversary celebrations of the University of Pittsburgh. He and other panelists from Pitt’s Department of English were invited to offer their perspectives on Brackenridge’s satirical novel Modern Chivalry, first published in 1792 but only completed in final form in 1815. The work reflected Brackenridge’s view on a wide range of contemporary social issues, including legal practice. The Post-Gazette published an article on the panel here.
