Ronald Brand and CILE Team Joined by Ambassador Richard J. Schmierer at 2d Annual Vis Middle East International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot in Muscat, Oman

On February 27 - March 1, 2012, Professor Ronald Brand, along with 3Ls Sarah Miley, Kimberly Stains, and Kaitlin Young, provided oral argument training and helped administer the Second Annual Willem C. Vis Middle East International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot in Muscat, Oman. The event was organized in coordination with the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR).  Katerina Ossenova, J.D. ‘08, coordinated the pre-moot on behalf of CLDP.  Vis Moot teams from seven Middle East law schools participated in the training and argued in the Pre-Moot: University of Baghdad (Iraq), University of Bahrain, University of Jordan, Qatar University, Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), UAE University, and the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis.  Pitt Law’s Center for International Legal Education (CILE) has for five years trained Middle East teams for the Vis Arbitration Moot under a contract with CLDP. 

Brand and his colleagues were joined by U.S. Ambassador to Oman, the Honorable Dr. Richard J. Schmierer, at the award ceremony and banquet for the Middle East Pre-Moot on March 1.
