Try out to be a member of the Pitt Law team at the 2013 National E. Earle Zehmer Workers’ Compensation Moot Court, August 17-19, 2013, in Orlando, FL!

Adjunct Professor David Torrey is seeking applicants for tryouts for a Pitt Law team to take part in the Earle Zehmer Workers’ Compensation Moot Court competition. This annual appellate moot court is held in Orlando, FL, concurrently with the Florida Workers’ Compensation Institute and National Association of Workers’ Compensation Judiciary education conferences. The focus of this moot court is oral advocacy, but the team will also prepare a brief as part of the competition. The competition’s initial rounds are judged by workers’ compensation judges, and the final session is heard by members of the Florida First District Court of Appeals.

  1. 2L’s interested in workers’ compensation, other areas of employment law, and appellate advocacy;
  2. Availability in person here in Pittsburgh, during the summer, for brief preparation and coaching; and
  3. Positive feedback from applicant’s legal writing professor.

A team for the Zehmer moot court consists of three members.

Tryout/interview times are as follows: Sunday, February 24, 2013, at a site at Pitt Law, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and Monday, February 25, 2013, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Judge Torrey’s courtroom, Downtown (Chamber of Commerce Building, 7th and Smithfield). The tryout consists of a brief oral argument based on a summary appellate brief that we will provide to you.
