John Burkoff on Jurors in Limbo Pending Trial

Publish Date/Time:

Professor John Burkoff commented on a criminal trial in Blair County, PA, in which a jury was selected.  Then an emergency hearing by the state Supreme Court put the case and the jury's service on hold.  For more than two weeks, the jury has been in limbo, waiting for the trial to begin.  The judge has instructed them, in the meantime, not to discuss the case or engage in any activities that might prejudice the case.  The jurors are also on notice that if they return to their regular activities, they could be pulled back into the court for service at any time.  Professor Burkoff called the jury "a bunch of individuals who have not done anything and their lives are on hold.”
