The Innovation Practice Institute's first “Start Smart” event is at CMU this Wednesday, September 11, from 5:30-7:00 pm in Room 6115 of the Gates/Hillman Building. Start Smart is an initiative between the IPI and CMU’s Project Olympus that provides educational seminars and workshops to teach entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Pittsburgh region the basics of business law. David Lehman, a partner at K&L Gates, will be addressing “Raising Capital: Start-Up Cash,” including legal issues related to: raising capital from friends and family; opportunities available through the new JOBS Act; crowd sourcing and proposed SEC regulation; and funding from incubators/accelerators, government, and foundations. Start Smart is also a great way to meet innovators and entrepreneurs, including CMU computer science students mentored by Lenore Blum and Kit Needham of Project Olympus. And free food will be served!
