Master of Laws (LLM) - Apply Now
Applications considered on a rolling basis, apply today
Pitt Law’s LLM program welcomes applications from foreign-trained lawyers who are seeking to expand their knowledge of the U.S. legal system through a year of study in our dynamic community of students and scholars. We seek students whose record shows their ability to thrive in a demanding, competitive academic atmosphere. We both accept directly submitted applications or through the Law School Admissions Council.
Applicants must have earned (or expect to earn before their arrival) an LLB or equivalent degree in law from a law school or faculty of law in a country outside of the US.
Applicants must have taken either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations of English competency within the past two years. We generally seek results equal to or greater than 100 on the TOEFL (internet based test) or 7.0 on the IELTS; however, we accept scores of 90 or above on the TOEFL or 6.5 or higher on the IELTS where the applicant’s academic record and recommendations provide confidence that the student will thrive in our program. The TOEFL/IELTS requirement may be waived for prospective students who attend the University’s English Language Institute (ELI) and successfully complete Level 5 or 6 in the ELI's program with a score of 85% or higher and an appropriate recommendation from the ELI to CILE.
The applications linked at the buttons above provide full details on what you need to submit in order for us to consider your application. In summary, your application requires:

Professional and Educational Goals Statement (your “personal statement”)

Official TOEFL or IELTS results
Three letters of recommendation
