Legal Research Fellows Practicum - Fall 2014
Term: Fall Term 2014-15 (2151)
Catalog Number: 5958
Class Number: 21122
Catalog Requirements: W
Enrollment Limit: 5
Priority: General Enrollment Course
Participants in this one credit, graded course will sharpen and refine basic research skills learned during previous legal research courses. With supervision from the Faculty Services Librarian and other Barco Law Library librarians, students will learn to develop legal research strategies, conduct efficient and comprehensive legal research and to effectively communicate the results of their research to faculty members. Fellows may draft memos, generate spreadsheets or develop bibliographies as finished work products for assignments.
The Research Fellow will encounter a diversity of research requests just as an associate would receive a variety of assignments in a law firm setting. Fellows will have an opportunity to directly interact with faculty members.
Students must complete forty (40) hours of research during the semester, write short (2-3 page) reaction papers reflecting on what they learned during their mandatory research classes and complete a ten page paper to receive credit for the course. All research hours must be worked at the Barco Law Library to receive credit for the class.
